PETER BOUWHUIS

AMERICAS (NORTH AMERICA):

Being based in EUROPE, and working from a global perspective, it is commonplace to be involved in material movements to/from the Americas.

Peter Bouwhuis has been involved in projects and general commercial freight forwarding to from USA/Canada/Mexico since beginning his industry career in the ‘80’s, and has visited most major cities coast-to-Coast during his time with Schenkers, Skylon and ABB/Lummus Global.

His involvement in the 1992 Olympic Spa Regatta games held in Medemblik, Netherlands was a career highlight, as the USA and Canadian teams needed special logistics care and handling to provide necessary schedule requirements and uplift of equipment to meet standards.

As this involved sailing teams from many countries – the management and coordination were paramount, along with intense 7/24 communications’ standards in order to avoid conflicts.

Since the first SPA Regatta in 1985, this Dutch event has become one of world's best Olympic Sailing regattas with over 1.100 participants from more than 50 countries

In the early 90s, he was involved in solution implementation for AMP (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania), on their European, African, MiddleEast commercial freight integrated logistics applications, including warehousing, distribution, forwarding, and customs programs.

As “team leader” for the design and solution executed under the AMP-strategy, the cycle time was reduced from 4 days to less than 2.5 days, providing for inventory reduction, and overall cost savings (freight and inventory) to AMP of over US$1.5 MM per year.

A similar program was later implemented for IBM – providing for distribution through the Dutch-locations to most of western European customers.

As CEO/President of Skylon International Forwarders, Peter enjoyed wearing the “new green emblem” and was key supporter to the emerging industry for transportation of windmills (“green electric solution”) from manufacturing sources in The Netherlands and Denmark to the USA for Stork & Fibeware.

Over 20 ocean vessels have been chartered, as well as aircraft from Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Luxembourg for the wing sections of the windmills.

Mr. Bouwhuis enjoys the unique and unusual… never an opportunity – however new or enterprising is overlooked.
Sometimes the solution is new – and sometimes, it does not yet exist, so creativity and enterprise – and working with the client to develop THE solution are what sets him apart.

The oil fields of West Texas represent a distinct contrast - from the oil boom days to 21st-century “eco-rich and friendly windfarms”, this high, windy, dry plains region holds promise to provide the largest North American natural resource for renewable energy.

The surrounding communities near Fort Stockton, Texas (USA)  - 450 miles SSW of Dallas/Ft Worth, currently holds title to the largest electrical (mgwt) generating facilities of its kind in Texas – and Texas leads “the world” – according to some Texans.

The initial discoveries in the Permian Basin fields in the 1920s have given way to new opportunities in  the area near to McCamey, Texas.

Pictured: The OLD and the NEW - Fort Stockton, Texas and the “Santa Rita No. 1” outside of McCamey, Texas – the founding father of the giant west Texas fields! production through wind power is fueling the local economy.
